 Jobs for February:

- Plant bare-rooted shrubs, trees, roses and hedges

- Firm plants lifted by frost and wind & knock heavy snow off

- Renovate deciduous hedge, cut back top and alternate sides

- Prune wisteria back to 2 or 3 buds on all laterals

- Prune roses, apple trees, soft fruit & apply general fertiliser

- For foliage effect hard prune Cotinus, Philadelphus and

  Sambucus and prune Buddleia to low growing shoot

- Divide congested clumps of herbaceous perennials

- Remove dead flowers from winter flowering heathers to

  keep plants compact

- Plan vegetable garden and order seeds
