 Jobs for May:

- Dead head daffodils but leave foliage until the end of May

- Prune forsythia and flowering currants after flowering

- Prick out seedlings once first set of true leaves formed

- Sow herbs in pots - put in greenhouse or on window sill

- Spread mulch on borders to suppress weeds

- Sow new lawns from seed

- Sow beetroot, carrot, lettuce, leeks, radish, turnips, peas

  & perpetual spinach (repeat peas & lettuce every 10 days)

- Sow beans, marrows, courgettes and squashes in pots

- Watch out for greenfly and blackfly and treat if infestations

  are bad (spray with a soft soap solution)
