Front Garden - before
This front Garden had random paving on the left hand side, a low block wall across
the front (with a gap to reach the front door and a larger opening for vehicular
access), sea washed shingle on the right hand side for off road parking and shingle
down the side of the bungalow.
The random paving on the left hand side had larger stones in it for decoration and
some planted beds with mature shrubs.
The client wanted something more tidy that didn't move around when walking or driving
over the area.
A path was laid in stretcher bond block paving, the parking area was paved in a contrasting
colour and pattern and a circle was added in a different colour in basketweave .
The main block paving was continued at the side of the bungalow and, because the
client is involved with sailing and the sea, a nautical star was added behind the
gates which are normally closed. This creates a small patio which is a suntrap.
A specimen tree (Pyrus calleryana 'Chanticleer') was planted in the random paving;
it has lovely glossy leaves and gives Spring blossom and great late Autumn colour.
The star can be viewed from, and is centred on, the patio doors beyond the gates.
Most of the existing paving was left in situ and the mature shrubs were kept.
A new brick wall was built leaving a wider opening than the original to allow both
pedestrian and vehicular access.
