Back Garden
near Claydon
Red bricks are used for continuity throughout and circular features add a semi formal
feel to the design.
The patio is laid in random pattern.
The clients wanted a large patio in the area of the garden which gets the evening
sun but were unsure how to achieve this as the garden sits on a higher plane from
the house. This area also had some misshaped trees which blocked the sun.
The clients needed some Concept Ideas and then a Working Plan,Specifications and
Bill of Quantity so that they could implement the design.
The clients’ brother, a builder, undertook the work and the clients managed the
project - a credit to all concerned!
Formal quadrant steps lead up from the lower paved area which catches the sun in
the morning. The barbecue is on the lower patio, closest to the house, which helps
keep smoke away from the sitting area. The main patio is large but grand scale and
simple ideas keep it in proportion and balance the whole garden. The summer house
complements the scale and well placed pots add interest.
The steps from the back door are in a different material and are large enough to
be used as small seating areas.
